You take the stairs instead of the elevator, skip desserts and go to the doctor when you are sick.<\/p>\n<p>But we can all do better. Here are some ideas to jumpstart new habits.<\/p>\n<h2>Here are five ways to live a healthier lifestyle:<\/h2>\n<h3>1.\u00a0 Diet.<\/h3>\n<p>Eat plenty of <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/healthy-weight-growth\/healthy-eating\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fresh, non-processed foods<\/a>, drink 64 ounces of water daily, and limit caffeine and alcohol intake.<\/p>\n<h3>2.\u00a0 Exercise.<\/h3>\n<p>Get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/every-physical-activity-you-do-throughout-your-day-counts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">aerobic activity weekly<\/a>, or 30 minutes most days. Also, get two-to-three 20-30 minute weekly strength training sessions, focusing on major muscle groups.<\/p>\n<h3>3.\u00a0 Sleep.<\/h3>\n<p>Try to get 7-8 hours every night and try to keep a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/top-7-sleep-tips-use-time-change-jumpstart-healthier-sleep-habits\/\">regular sleep-wake cycle<\/a> \u2013 go to bed and get up at the same time every day.<\/p>\n<h3>4.\u00a0 Socialization.<\/h3>\n<p>It reduces stress and anxiety and improves mental functioning \u2013 and that helps guard against depression, heart disease and dementia.<\/p>\n<h3>5.\u00a0 Have a primary care physician.<\/h3>\n<p>Annual visits are important for all ages because they are intended to detect disease early before it leads to serious consequences.<\/p>\n<p>These are really the basics, the foundation for good health.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maybe you think you know all the ways to live a healthier lifestyle.
