Fed by geothermic heat generated deep underground, natural hot springs warm sections of rivers and human-made pools throughout Colorado and the West. Photo courtesy of Old Town Hot Springs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You have two options here.<\/p>\n<p>The simpler choice is a beautiful option.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oldtownhotsprings.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Old Town Hot Springs<\/a> is a nonprofit recreation center, hot springs and water park located in the heart of Steamboat Springs at the corner of Lincoln Avenue (the main thoroughfare through town) and 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Street. The history of this area is rich, and in the lobby, you\u2019ll see fun vintage photos that show how the natural hot springs have evolved over the years. Pools have rejuvenated people here for more than 100 years. Kids love Old Town because the center features an aquatic climbing wall, where you can climb out of the water, clang a bell at the top and splash back into the pool.<\/p>\n<p>During the summer, adults can tune out their troubles while gazing at slopes full of wildflowers. In the fall, aspen trees paint the hillside yellow, while snowflakes melt peacefully into the hot water in the winter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/strawberryhotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strawberry Park Hot Springs<\/a> is located seven miles north of Steamboat Springs along pools carved out from the aptly named Hot Springs Creek.<\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time, Strawberry Park was a warm spot in a bend of the creek. It\u2019s now more developed, with options to camp or stay in nearby cabins. You won\u2019t have as many choices in the temperatures of the pools here. But if you want a natural vibe and don\u2019t mind the drive, Strawberry Park is worth a visit.<\/p>\n<p>Be prepared for a tough journey in winter when you\u2019ll either have to take a shuttle or you\u2019ll need a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Parking is limited.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Chaffee County hot springs near Buena Vista and Salida: Mt. (If you\u2019re new to Colorado, be sure to pronounce it like a local: \u201cBEW-na Vista,\u201d not the Spanish \u201cBWAY-na Vista.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Here, one of the top attractions is <a href=\"https:\/\/mtprinceton.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort<\/a>, where you can enjoy multiple pools and views of the 14,000-foot peaks that jut up from the springs. In the summer, kids will love a water slide that is built into a hill. In the summer, after the icy runoff from the high peaks has eased, you can find warm spots in the creek. And, in the winter, you can enjoy a serene soak as the snow falls.<\/p>\n<p>Other hot springs in the area include: <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofsalida.com\/aquaticcenter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salida Hot Springs Aquatic Center<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cottonwood-hot-springs.com\/colorado\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cottonwood Hot Springs<\/a>, <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/playinbuenavista.com\/buena-vista\/hot-springs\/charlotte-hot-springs-botanical-gardens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charlotte Hot Springs and Botanical Gardens<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/anterohotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Antero Hot Springs Cabins<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonus activity in the area.<\/strong> Check out one of the best-preserved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/ghost-towns-abound-in-colorado\/\">ghost towns<\/a> in Colorado, St. Elmo. It\u2019s located about 12 miles west of Mount Princeton Hot Springs.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Pagosa Springs hot springs: Mineral-rich soaks on the San Juan River<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Surrounded by more than 3 million acres of national forest and wilderness areas in Colorado\u2019s stunning San Juan Mountains, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitpagosasprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pagosa Springs<\/a> is home to all sorts of outdoor adventures, including hiking, fishing, rafting and cycling.<\/p>\n<p>The town\u2019s natural hot springs are among the biggest attractions. Pagosa Springs brags that it is home to the world\u2019s deepest geothermal aquifer and that the springs offer healing powers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pagosahotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Springs Resort &amp; Spa<\/a>\u00a0is located on the banks of the San Juan River in downtown Pagosa Springs. The developed hot springs resort has 23 naturally hot therapeutic mineral pools and a mineral water lap pool fed by the aquifer.<\/p>\n<p>O<strong>ther hot springs in Pagosa Springs<\/strong>:\u00a0<a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.overlookhotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Overlook Hot Springs Spa<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pshotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Healing Waters Resort &amp; Spa<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Ouray Hot Springs Pool: A sulfur-free Colorado soak with big mountain views<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In some of Colorado\u2019s hot springs, you\u2019ll notice a distinctive sulfuric odor. Not in Ouray, which bills itself as the \u201cSwitzerland of America.\u201d The springs here are blissfully free of any strong scents. Photo courtesy of the Ouray Tourism Office.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Town of Ouray runs the fabulous <a href=\"https:\/\/ourayhotsprings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ouray Hot Springs Pool<\/a>, which has operated here since 1927. The center features two water slides, an obstacle course, a climbing wall, a 75-degree lap pool and a 104-degree adults-only area.<\/p>\n<p>All the pools are fed by sulfur-free mineral water that includes iron, manganese, zinc, fluoride and potassium. Fun fact: when the water comes out of the ground, it\u2019s a scalding 150 degrees. Town managers mix the hot water with much colder spring water to create a perfect blend of hot and cold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bonus activity in the area. <\/strong>During the summer, be sure to visit Box Ca\u00f1on Falls, a stunning waterfall and park where the Town of Ouray also operates.
