There were no warning signs that her heart was about to fail.<\/p>\n<p>Within a few minutes of arriving at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-memorial-hospital-north\/\">UCHealth Memorial North<\/a> in Colorado Springs, Chantelle was sedated, intubated and taken to the heart catheterization lab, where a cardiologist placed stents to open her arteries. From there, Chantelle was transported to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-memorial-hospital-central\/\">UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central<\/a>, where she was put on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/services\/heart-and-vascular-care\/services-and-treatments\/ecmo\/\">ECMO<\/a>, a type of life support that assists the heart and lungs. Later that night, Chantelle was transferred again \u2013 this time to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-university-of-colorado-hospital-uch\/\">UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital<\/a> on the <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cu.edu\/cu-careers\/anschutz-medical-campus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anschutz Medical Campus<\/a>, where she was put on the transplant list for a heart.<\/p>\n<p>The family prayed.<\/p>\n<p>Three days after suffering coronary aortic dissection, Chantelle had a donor heart transplanted during surgery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chantelle\u2019s journey \u2026 is an incredible example of coordination of complex care across three different hospitals, but one UCHealth system,\u201d said <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/som.cuanschutz.edu\/Profiles\/Faculty\/Profile\/27478\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Jessica Yu Rove<\/a>, the surgeon who performed Chantelle\u2019s heart transplant.<\/p>\n<p>Chantelle and her family are grateful to all those who had a role in her care and to her donor. &#8220;We are forever grateful to my donor, to my donor&#8217;s family,&#8221; Chantelle said. &#8220;They changed our life.
