Hoy en d\u00eda, los pacientes pueden recibir reemplazos de cadera y rodilla que preservan la funci\u00f3n y el movimiento de las articulaciones.<\/p>\n<p>Pero \u00bfqu\u00e9 pasa con la columna vertebral?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa columna vertebral no es una estructura r\u00edgida\u201d, dijo el <a id=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/provider\/j-alex-sielatycki-md\/\" href=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/provider\/j-alex-sielatycki-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. J. Alex Sielatycki<\/a>, cirujano de columna en Steamboat Springs y miembro del personal m\u00e9dico del <a id=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-yampa-valley-medical-center\/\" href=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/locations\/uchealth-yampa-valley-medical-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center<\/a>. Cada vez que usted se mueve \u2014sentado, de pie, agach\u00e1ndose, girando\u2014, forma parte de una cadena cin\u00e9tica que lo abarca todo, desde el suelo, pasando por los pies, las piernas, las caderas y la pelvis, hasta la columna vertebral.<\/p>\n<p>A continuaci\u00f3n, Sielatycki comparte m\u00e1s sobre la columna vertebral, la preservaci\u00f3n del movimiento y c\u00f3mo mantenerla lo m\u00e1s saludable posible.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>C\u00f3mo tratar una columna vertebral enferma<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a id=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/pinched-nerve\/\" href=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/pinched-nerve\/\">La compresi\u00f3n nerviosa<\/a>, <a id=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/degenerative-disk-disease\/\" href=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/degenerative-disk-disease\/\">la enfermedad degenerativa del disco <\/a>y <a id=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/facet-joint-syndrome\/\" href=\"https:\/\/es.uchealth.org\/diseases-conditions\/facet-joint-syndrome\/\">el s\u00edndrome de la articulaci\u00f3n facetaria,<\/a> son fuentes comunes de dolor en la espalda baja que pueden irradiarse a las piernas, dijo Sielatycki.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa buena noticia es que la mayor\u00eda de los problemas no requieren cirug\u00eda\u201d, dijo. \u201cEn realidad, la cirug\u00eda no es el primer paso para la mayor\u00eda de los pacientes. En cambio, consideramos la fisioterapia, los medicamentos antiinflamatorios, las inyecciones de esteroides, los programas de ejercicios aer\u00f3bicos de bajo impacto o incluso la posibilidad de perder peso antes de considerar la cirug\u00eda. Solo en casos excepcionales, cuando un paciente experimenta una progresi\u00f3n r\u00e1pida, presenta un d\u00e9ficit nervioso o incapacidad para caminar, consideramos la cirug\u00eda antes que otras alternativas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Si se determina que la cirug\u00eda es necesaria, muchos procedimientos requieren la extirpaci\u00f3n y el reemplazo de partes de la columna vertebral para reducir el dolor, como la extracci\u00f3n de un disco desgastado o degenerado y su reemplazo por un disco artificial.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, cuando se eliminan las articulaciones facetarias o las conexiones entre los huesos de la columna, <a id=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/after-complex-spine-surgery-everything-does-feel-better\/\">se requieren fusiones<\/a>, ya que no existe una manera eficaz de reconstruirlas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLa columna vertebral es una de las \u00faltimas articulaciones del cuerpo que a\u00fan se fusiona debido a muchas afecciones que pueden presentar los pacientes\u201d, dijo Sielatycki.<\/p>\n<p>Por eso los avances en la preservaci\u00f3n del movimiento de la columna son tan alentadores. Existen <a id=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/search?term=joint%20reconstruction%20for%20lower%20spine&amp;viewType=Table\" href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/search?term=joint%20reconstruction%20for%20lower%20spine&amp;viewType=Table\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ensayos cl\u00ednicos<\/a> innovadores que involucran la reconstrucci\u00f3n articular total en la columna lumbar.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Beneficios de la preservaci\u00f3n del movimiento de la columna<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Una vez que un paciente se ha sometido a una artrodesis espinal, es posible que se desarrolle una enfermedad en el segmento adyacente. Por ejemplo, si se realiza una artrodesis en la columna lumbar, Sielatycki explic\u00f3 que es muy com\u00fan observar una degeneraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida de los discos por encima y por debajo de la zona.<\/p>\n<p>Al principio, el paciente evoluciona razonablemente bien, pero luego es posible que el dolor o la degeneraci\u00f3n se propague, dijo. Existe una alta probabilidad de que el paciente necesite m\u00faltiples fusiones en el futuro.<\/p>\n<p>Con los avances en la preservaci\u00f3n del movimiento de la columna vertebral, los cirujanos de columna no solo pueden aliviar el dolor del paciente, sino que tambi\u00e9n pueden preservar y\/o restaurar el movimiento, a la vez que previenen la aparici\u00f3n de enfermedades y la necesidad de cirug\u00edas adicionales.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Queremos restaurar el funcionamiento normal de nuestros pacientes&#8221;, afirm\u00f3 Sielatycki. &#8220;Seguir\u00e1 habiendo casos en los que las fusiones espinales sean necesarias y apropiadas, pero el trabajo que se est\u00e1 realizando para preservar el movimiento permitir\u00e1 a nuestros pacientes obtener resultados a\u00fan mejores&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Preserve el movimiento de su columna<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Sielatycki anima a las personas a mantenerse en forma y activas para preservar la salud de la columna vertebral. Recomienda ejercicios aer\u00f3bicos de bajo impacto, junto con <a id=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/es-lo-que-todas-las-mujeres-necesitan-saber-sobre-el-entrenamiento-de-fuerza\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uchealth.org\/today\/es-lo-que-todas-las-mujeres-necesitan-saber-sobre-el-entrenamiento-de-fuerza\/\">entrenamiento<\/a> de flexibilidad y fortalecimiento del core.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLas actividades que trabajan el core, como el yoga, el pilates y los abdominales, contribuyen enormemente a mantener una envoltura muscular sana alrededor de la columna vertebral y a mantenerla en movimiento como debe ser\u201d, afirm\u00f3 Sielatycki.<\/p>\n<p>Una buena ergonom\u00eda y buenos h\u00e1bitos de levantamiento de pesas tambi\u00e9n contribuyen a una columna vertebral sana. Si tiene un trabajo sedentario, aseg\u00farese de contar con un buen soporte lumbar en su silla.
