After obtaining her Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Masters in Critical Care / Trauma Nursing at University of California San Francisco (UCSF), JJ joined the Stanford Hospital Stroke Center in 2005. She worked with the multidisciplinary team providing expert care to complex stroke patients and their families. She was an integral part in helping Stanford obtain the designation as the first Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center in 2012. In 2014, she transitioned to a more clinical role as an APP with Neurosurgery in the ICU. In 2017, she moved back to Colorado to join the UCHealth. She lives right around the corner from the house she grew up in. She enjoys going to Air Force and CU Boulder football games, riding her bike or walking along the Santa Fe Trail, and relaxing with her cat, Dude.

JJ's clinical and research interests are focused on Neurosurgical and Neurocritical Care. She has published and presented nationally as well as internationally on Cerebrovascular Disease and Therapeutic Temperature Management. She is a member of the Neurocritical Care Society of Medicine, American Stroke Association, and American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. Although academically accomplished and an expert in the field of Neuroscience, JJ emphasizes that the most important element of the provider patient / family connection is empathy and excellent communication.
